CELEBRATING OUR AUTISM AND NEURODIVERSITY

Apr 01, 2024

April is the month when we celebrate those with Autism and other Neurodiverse diagnosis. There was a time early on in the journey with our daughter Gabbi, who was diagnosed with Autism at age four, that I did not think her diagnosis should be celebrated. I was more focused on trying to change her to what is considered "neurotypical".

I thank God that I know now how blessed we are to have been chosen to be Gabbi's parents! Today, we celebrate her for who she is and what she brings into this world. We also celebrate all those who are like her, diagnosed with Autism or with other Neurodiverse diagnoses, who have so much to offer our world.

Getting to this place of celebration wasn’t easy… as when I started taking a good look at myself, I knew I needed to make some changes. I had to get myself to a good feeling place where I could access positive emotions, which would allow me to see the positive side of Autism. This ultimately led me to develop the thought processes and tools required to help me stay optimistic, despite some of the challenges we faced. From this positive place and with my newly developed approach, I was ultimately able to find solutions that were previously unattainable.

Secondly, I had to shift from a place of judgment (about our daughter, her behavior, and the diagnosis) to seeking to understand Gabbi and to support her needs better. This shift also helped me to remain more positive, having moved to a place of compassion more of the time, versus one of judgment.

Lastly, I had to create a belief that all things were possible for Gabbi. I came to believe strongly that her diagnosis would not limit her from achieving her life's purpose and passion, but instead be the catalyst that would allow her to do some amazing things.

Where do you find yourself today? Are you enjoying the relationship with your child or young adult? Do you have the knowledge, tools, and support needed to create a positive environment in your home? If not, I can relate! But I also know there is a path for you to create your own Green Zone Life filled with hope, happiness, and the ability to create the existence your child and your family deserve.

Please connect with us at [email protected] as we would love to schedule a time to share what programs are available to meet you right where you are at!

With Love and Appreciation,
